WELLNESS &
AYURVEDA

In Sanskrit, Ayurveda means “The Science of Life.” It is one of the world’s oldest holistic healing systems. The origin of Ayurveda begins in India more than 5,000 years ago and is often called the “Mother of All Healing.” It is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Its main goal is to promote good health and not to fight disease. Ultimately, the treatments may be geared toward to relieve from specific health problems.

The Essence of Ayurveda

In Ayurveda, a combination of herbs, diet, massage, hydrotherapy and oil treatment is used to treat everything from stress to diabetes, migraine, asthma, arthritis and high blood pressure.  Ayurveda specialists will tell you that this form of treatment also helps boost the immune system, promotes a general sense of well-being, and even helps delay the ageing process.

With many in the West turning from medicine which treats only the body, towards a more holistic approach, Sri Lanka has become destination for those seeking solace in the Ayurvedic principle of body, mind, and soul.

YOUR PERFECT WELLNESS & HOLISTIC HOLIDAY IN SRI LANKA

The knowledge of Ayurveda is considered to have been formally handed over to Sri Lanka during the 3rd century BC with the introduction of Buddhism. Ever since Sri Lanka is known to have practiced Ayurveda Medicine. In the present day, there are approximately 6,500 registered Ayurveda practitioners in Sri Lanka, and twice that number practicing informally in the villages. There are Specialised Ayurveda resorts that cater almost exclusively to visitors to Sri Lanka. They may opt for a minimal weekend stay but are generally encouraged to stay up to two or three weeks to obtain the maximum benefit from a combination of pure fresh air, a largely vegetarian diet, yoga, meditation, and individually designed Ayurvedic treatments followed by the in-house doctor consultation. In addition to a range of Ayurvedic treatments, Ayurvedic resorts offer yoga, meditation, lectures, and the opportunity to learn how to cook food according to Ayurvedic principles and the usage of herbal spices. You may also opt to go on excursions to nearby places of interest.
